HIGHLIGHTS
AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron women's tennis team concluded plays at its own Akron Invitational on Sunday.
The Zips were swept in doubles action by Cornell.
In singles action against West Virginia, junior Karolina Maksimova defeated Lyn Yuen Choo, 7-6 (2), 1-6, 1-0 (9), at the No. 3 spot. At No. 6, senior Martina Zerbola beat Abigail Rosiello, 6-2, 6-1.
"Playing teams like this is certainly going to help us not just in the fall but moving forward in the spring as well," said head coach Brandon Padgett. "This is a great group to coach and they always work very hard so I am excited to see what lies ahead."
In the other first singles round, Cornell also swept UMKC. In doubles action, West Virginia won all three matches against the Kanagroos.
All play was round-robin. Team scores were not kept.
Akron travels to the Buffalo Tournament on Oct. 9-11 in Buffalo, N.Y.
