LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore men's golfer J.B. Williams concluded the 2015 Clark's Pump-N-Shop Marathon Kentucky Amateur in a tie for sixth place on Thursday.
Williams closed play with a three-round score of 1-under 215, just one of seven players in the 73-player field to finish the tournament under par. Logan Hogge led wire-to-wire to win the event with a 54-hole tally of 4-under 212.
After opening the tournament with a 3-under 69, Williams posted a 1-under 71 on Wednesday before closing play with a final-round 75 (+3). He carded two birdies and one eagle on the day, but could not overcome his five bogeys and one double-bogey.
Fellow sophomore Chandler Morgan finished the amateur event in a tie for 50th place (228, +12).
The Kentucky State Amateur Championship has been conducted annually since 1911 and has crowned many of the Commonwealth's legendary golfers. This championship is the flagship tournament for the Kentucky Golf Association (KGA) and is contested over 54-holes of stroke play competition.
Players reach the championship by either qualifying at a section site or earning an exemption into the championship field. The 156-player field is cut to the top 70 and ties after 36-holes of competition.
