Williams Inside Top-Three at 59th Eastern Amateur After Two Rounds

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – J.B. Williams posted back-to-back rounds in the red and sits inside the top-three after the second round of the 59th Eastern Amateur at the Elizabeth Manor Golf & Country Club on Friday.
Williams closed play with a 36-hole tally of 5-under 139 and is tied for third place. He trails tournament-leader James Clark by three shots (136, -8) with two rounds to play. Chandler Morgan is tied for 47th place with a two-round score of 143 (+3).
Williams opened the event with a round of 1-under 69. After making the turn at 2-under, he added a birdie on No. 10 to move to 3-under before double-bogeying No. 18.
On Friday, Williams again made the turn in good position, posting a score of 3-under through nine holes. He posted four birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to post a score of 4-under 66, tied for the third-lowest round of the event so far.
Morgan opened the week with a round of 4-over 74 on Thursday. After playing even-par golf through nine holes and a birdie at No. 10, he struggled over the final three holes with a pair of bogeys and a triple bogey.
Morgan rebounded on Friday, firing a round of 1-under 69. He would card five birdies and four bogeys on the day.
Play will continue on Saturday while the final round is slated for Sunday.
The Eastern Amateur has been played every year since 1957.
