Men's Golf Earns GCAA All-Academic Team Honor for Seventh-Straight Year

NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has named the University of Akron men's golf team as one of 171 All-Academic Teams, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The Zips posted a team GPA of 3.486 during the 2014-15 season, just missing President's Special Recognition status (3.5 or higher GPA). Only 24 programs posted a 3.5 or higher in the previous academic calendar.
The list of teams to post the minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2014-15 season covers all six divisions of collegiate golf. Akron is one of four Mid-American Conference programs on the list, including Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Miami (Ohio).
This year marks the seventh-straight season the Zips have earned the GCAA All-Academic Team Award, earning the honor every year the award has been given.
Harvard (Division I), Tiffin (Division II), Webster (Division III), Embry-Riddle Arizona (NAIA), Garden City (NJCAA DI) and Meridian (NJCAA DII) have been named Academic National Champions for their respective divisions. Embry-Riddle Arizona posted the highest overall team GPA for all divisions with a 3.75.
GCAA All-Academic Teams carry a GPA of 3.0 or higher. To be eligible, a college or university must submit the grade points earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) was established in 1958 and is located in Norman, Okla. The GCAA is a non-profit organization and is the professional association of men's collegiate golf coaches. Through its established events and programs, the GCAA maintains a goal of increasing awareness and the status of men's golf. There are over 750 members in the GCAA representing all three NCAA divisions as well as NAIA and NJCAA.
