HIGH POINT, N.C. – Redshirt freshman Elliott Grayson had a solid week on the course last week, advancing to the Round of 16 at the Sixth North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship at the High Point Country Club, Willow Creek Course.
Grayson fell 4&2 to Conner Sock in the Round of 16 on Friday after winning his first match of the day, 3&2, over Daniel Brantley.
Against Sock, this year's runner up, Grayson fell behind by two holes early and eventually made the turn down 2UP. After winning the 10th hole, Grayson would drop four of the final five holes to see his week come to an end.
In his first match of the day, Grayson won the first three holes to take an early lead, but would drop four of the next five to fall behind by one hole. He would trail for only one hole, tying the match on No. 10 and winning the final three holes to earn the victory.
During the stroke play portion of the event, Grayson finished in third place with a two-round score of 4-under 140. He opened play with an even-par 72 before firing a 4-under 68, tied for the second-lowest round of the week.
Grayson and the Zips return to action this September.
