Complete 2015-16 Men's Golf Schedule
AKRON, Ohio – Eleven events, including the Invitational at The Ocean Course and The Firestone Invitational at the world-famous Firestone Country Club, are just some of the highlights of the 2015-16 Akron men's golf schedule, head coach David Trainer announced on Wednesday.
The Zips will play five fall events, beginning with the Invitational at The Ocean Course, and six spring events, culminating with the 2016 Mid-American Conference Championship in Sylvania, Ohio.
"I absolutely love our schedule for this coming season," Trainor said. "It is my goal every year to build a schedule that will allow our team to compete against the best available competition on great venues, and that is exactly what our 2015-16 slate does. I am looking forward to working hard with our team and getting back on the course this fall."
Akron opens the season on September 11 when it travels to Kiawah Island, S.C., for the Invitational at The Ocean Course. This event is held on The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, home of the 2012 and 2021 PGA Championships.
The Zips return home for two tournaments in the state of Ohio, beginning with the Inverness Intercollegiate (Sept. 21-22) in Toledo, Ohio. UA will then play host to The Firestone Invitational on October 5-6, welcoming 16 teams to the North Course of Firestone Country Club.
The squad will then travel to Bridgeport, W.Va., for the Mountaineer Intercollegiate (October 19-20) before concluding the fall season at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate in North Carolina (October 25-27).
The 2016 spring season will kick off on February 22 when the Zips open play at the Wexford Intercollegiate on Hilton Head Island, S.C., in the first of four events played in the Palmetto State.
The Zips will then play at the Palmetto Intercollegiate (March 7-8), Furman Intercollegiate (March 25-27) and the Hootie at Bulls Bay (April 3-5) to conclude their South Carolina road trip.
Akron will conclude the 2016 regular season at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate (April 9-10) before heading to the MAC Championships at the Highland Meadows Golf Club (April 29-May 1).
The Zips return seven letterwinners and one non-letterwinner from last year's squad. Akron will be led by seniors Louis Birchall and Ryan Harris, as well as a talented group of juniors in Zach Gollwitzer, Chandler Morgan, Yann Pfeiffer and J.B. Williams.
Akron will also have sophomore George Baylis, as well as redshirt freshman Elliott Grayson. UA will welcome one freshman to the squad, with Euan Gill joining the Zips from Dingwall, Soctland.
