Akron, Ohio –Zips' sophomore golfer George Baylis (Ascot, England) joins 13 teams and nine individuals for regional play at the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships on Monday, May 16.
The 54-hole NCAA Kohler Regional, hosted by Marquette University, will be played at the par 72, 7,123-yard Blackwolf Run's Meadow Valleys Course in Kohler, Wisc. with opening round action beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
"This is a fantastic golf course, and it will identify the best teams and players," Zips' head coach David Trainor said. "The next three days will be a grind, but also a lot of fun."
Baylis is part of the 12th group to tee off from hole No. 1, beginning at 10:01 a.m. CT. The grouping includes Baylis (Akron), Trevor Tobin (South Dakota State), and Trent Wallace (Illinois State). View the complete listing of tee times via GolfStat pairings.
Baylis is one of three individuals from the MAC competing at the 2016 NCAA Regional, including Patrick Flavin from Miami (Ohio) and Toledo's Otto Black. In addition, the 2016 MAC Team Champions, Kent State, will be competing at this year's regional tournament as the No. 8 seed.
The additional teams and individuals are as follows, (teams): No. 1 Illinois, No. 2 Florida State, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 5 Baylor, No. 6 Penn State, No. 7 Memphis, No. 9 UCLA, No. 10 East Tennessee State, No. 11 Campbell, No. 12 Idaho, and No. 13 South Dakota State (individuals): Lloyd Jefferson (Seton Hall), Billy Walthouse (Rhode Island), Tee-K Kelly (Ohio State), Will Grimmer (Ohio State), Luke Graboyes (Cornell), and Evan Russell (Hartford).

After winning the Mid-American Conference Individual Championship for the first time in Akron men's golf history, Baylis automatically qualified for the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships. Baylis is the second individual in Zips' history to qualify for a regional, and is making Akron's third all-time regional appearance– Former UA golf standout Charlie Bull played in two NCAA regionals (2012 and 2013).
Baylis carded a 4-under par 67 final round score en route to a 1-under par 283 stroke MAC Championship win at the Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio on April 30.
During the final two rounds, he fired a 7-under par 135-stroke total to recover from an opening round 76 (+5) and second round 72 (+1).
In addition to the MAC Individual Championship, Baylis earned First-Team All-MAC accolades and MAC All-Tournament honors. He completed the 2015-16 campaign ranked in the Top 10 of the MAC's scoring average, finishing 6th overall with a 73.21 strokes.
In 11 events, Baylis led the Zips' scoring efforts seven times with five Top 25 finishes, including three Top 5 performances.
The NCAA Championships consists of 81 teams and 45 individuals throughout six 54-hole regional tournaments. The low five squads and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals on Friday, May 27 to Wednesday, June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
