Kohler, Wisc. –Sophomore George Baylis (Ascot, Engand) climbed 12 spots on the leaderboard during the second round of play at the 2016 NCAA Kohler Regional. Baylis fired a 1-over par 73 at Blackwolf Run Meadow Valleys Course on Tuesday for a 50th-best 149 (+5) 36-hole total.
"The course setup was more challenging today," Zips' head coach David Trainor said. "George played steady and was able to grind out a good round, considering the cold and windy weather conditions. Looking forward to tomorrow."
Baylis started the round on the 10th tee and played even through the first three holes, earning three-straight pars. However, he moved to 3-over par after a bogey and double-bogey on 13 and 14, respectively.
Baylis recovered with a pair of par scores and earned a stroke back with a birdie on the 175-yard par 3 17th hole. He pared the 18th hole and headed to the front-9 with a 2-over par 38 score.
Baylis added another par effort on hole No. 1, but recorded consecutive bogeys on holes 2 and 3, extending his total to 4-over with six holes left to play.
Once again, Baylis responded, firing back-to-back birdies on the 565-yard par 5 fourth hole and 403-yard par 4 fifth hole to move back to 2-over par. He proceeded steady play, recording with three-straight par scores on holes six, seven, and eight.
On the ninth hole, final hole of the round, Baylis carded his fourth birdie of the day. He used three strokes to finish the 462-yard par 4 to move up 12 positions on the leaderboard, finishing with the 1-over tally.
Currently, Florida's Alejandro Tosti leads the field with a 138 (-6) two-round total while Ohio State's Tee-K Kelly is second with a 140 (-4) 36-hole score.
The final round is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. CT from holes No. 1 and 10. Baylis, playing with Campbell's Craig Homeberger and Illinois State's Trent Wallace, will tee off from the 10th tee at 9:31-10 a.m. CT.
