AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron Women's Tennis Coach Brandon Padgett was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Chair for the Midwest Region for the upcoming 2016-17 season.
"I am excited about the opportunity to serve the Midwest region, and will take this appointment extremely serious," said Padgett. "Our region has an enormous amount of talented players, all whom deserve the best representation possible, which Mark Ardizzone (DePaul University Women's Tennis Coach) diligently provided for years. I will work hard to assure that same type of commitment and representation occurs moving forward."
Padgett is one of 12 regional chairs in the United States. As regional chair, Padgett will oversee the Midwest Regional Committee and will be a member of the ITA National Rankings Committee as well as the ITA National Tournament Committee. In these roles, Padgett will be responsible to vote on the Oracle/ITA National Preseason Singles and Doubles Rankings and the Oracle/ITA National Freshman/Newcomer Rankings. He will also help determine the at-large and wild-card selections for ITA National Tournaments. Furthermore, Padgett will assist in overseeing the Midwest Region's Awards Program.
Padgett has guided Akron to a 98-55 mark in six seasons as head coach. This past season, the Zips posted a 15-10 record and were the No. 4 seed at the Mid-American Conference Postseason Tournament.
Akron opens up the season at the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Northern Kentucky University. The tournament will be held Friday and Saturday September 16-17 with match times beginning at 8:30 am each day.
