Akron, Ohio – University of Akron golfer Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) claimed the 54th annual Cleveland County Amateur Golf Tournament championship for the second-consecutive year on Sunday, August 21.
Grayson earned the Richard Shelton Memorial Championship Trophy by firing a 54-hole tournament-low score of 5-under par 211 at the River Bend YMCA Golf Course in Shelby, N.C.
UA's redshirt sophomore fired an opening round 2-under par 70 stroke total and followed with a 5-under 67 performance to lead the field by two stokes after 36-holes of play.
During the final round, Grayson edged out Pierce Robinson (212, -4) by one stroke. Grayson held off Robinson's attempt at a comeback as Robinson pulled within one stroke after a birdie on hole No. 17. Both, Grayson and Robinson carded even-par scores on No. 18 as Grayson finished the final 18-holes with a 74 (+2), which proved to be enough to repeat as Cleveland County champion.
