Silver Lake, Ohio – Junior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) recorded Akron's first-ever hole-in-one as the Zips finished the Mid-American Conference Championships sixth overall with a 929 (+65) 54-hole total at Silver Lake Country Club on Sunday.
On the sixth hole, Her stepped up to the ball and, after a couple of practice swings and checking the wind on the elevated 185-yard, par-3, decided to club down for the shot. Her's instincts paid off as she watched the shot sail towards the flagstick, bounce, and fall into the hole for her first career hole-in-one in tournament play. Her finished the tournament second in scoring for the Zips with a 231 (+15) tournament total on rounds of 77 (+5), 79 (+7), and 75 (+3).
As a team, the Zips carded rounds of 310 (+22), 307 (+19), and 312 (+24) en route to the sixth place finish. The 54-hole event was hosted by Kent State and held at the par 72, 6,177-yard Silver Lake Country Club in Silver Lake, Ohio.
Kent State claimed the team title for the 19th-straight year with an 875 (+11) tournament total, while Northern Illinois earned runner-up at 909 (+45). With the win, KSU earned a point for the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge, tying the rivaly series at 5.5 points apiece. The Golden Flashes swept the Top 4 individual slots as Michaela Finn earned medalist honors with a 2-under par 214 total.
At the conclusion of the MAC Championship, the league announced the yearly awards while recognizing the MAC senior class, including UA's senior Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva (Guadalajara, Mexico) as well as Her for the tournaments lone hole-in-one. In addition, sophomore Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) was named First-Team All-MAC.
For the second consecutive year, sophomore Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) led Akron's scoring efforts with a 228 (+12) three-round total. Nicholson's seventh place finish was highlighted by rounds of 79 (+7), 71 (-1), and 78 (+6).
In her MAC Championship debut, freshman Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) finished third in scoring for the Zips and 20th overall. Wentworth back-to-back rounds of 77 (+5) along with a final round 80 (+8) for a 234 (+18) 54-hole total, while sophomore Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) used the final round to climb eight sots on the leaderboard. Dull fired a 79 (+7) final round score after an 81 (+9) nad 80 (+8) to finish 30th overall at 240 (+24).
Velasco-Villanueva rounded out the Zips' scoring in her final collegiate debut. Velasco-Villanueva finished 36th overall after rounds of 77 (+5), 80 (+8), and 85 (+13) for a 242 (+26) MAC Championship total.
The 2017 MAC Championships concludes the Zips' 2016-17 campaign.
