Men’s Golf Ninth after Round One of The Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational

Bridgeport, W.Va. – The Akron Zips men's golf team carded a 308 (+20) first round effort at the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational at the Pete Dye Golf Course on Monday.
Junior Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) led the Zips scoring with a 1-over par 73 performance that included 11 pars and three birdies. McFarland's 1-over effort landed him in the Top 15 in a tie for 14th overall.
Senior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) and freshman Ignacio Puente (Seville, Spain) followed with a pair of 78 (+6) scores, while redshirt freshmen Beau Bayerl (Ashland, Ohio) and sophomore Fabian Sunden (Sweden) posted 79 (+7) and 82 (+10) scores, respectively.
In addition, redshirt freshman Kaleb Smith (Mansfield, Ohio) is participating as an individual and finished the first round with a 78 (+6) ledger. Grayson, Puente, and Smith are all tied for at 37th overall on the player leaderboard.
The second round of the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational is currently underway, but the field is in jeopardy of not finishing the round. If all of the golfers do not complete round two, play will resume on Tuesday morning before the final round of competition.
