AKRON, Ohio– The University of Akron women's cross country and tennis teams received a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA on Wednesday, based on the most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR).
The Zips posted an APR in the Top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sport over the last four reported academic years (2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-17, and 2016-17). The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally.
Nearly 1,300 Division I sports teams are being recognized for outstanding performance in the classroom.
The 1,284 teams publicly recognized for high achievement included 827 women's teams and 457 men's or mixed squads.
The scores required to be in the top 10 ranged from 985 to a perfect 1,000, depending on the sport. Earning a perfect APR score were 1,188 teams.
Full APR scores for all teams will be released on May 23.
