Sophia Geier Named Summa Health Student-Athlete of the Week

AKRON, Ohio– University of Akron redshirt senior Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany) has been named the Zips' Summa Health Student-Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row and the fourth time this year.

The team captain also earned the honor on September 25, February 2, and April 8.

In the 6-1 win at defending MAC champion Buffalo, Geier shut out Chantel Martinez Blanco, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 1 position.

Overall, Geier stands 26-4 in singles action, 18-1 in spring action, and a perfect 6-0 in MAC play, all at the No. 1 spot. She stands second on Akron's career lists with 103 singles victories and 172 combined (singles/doubles) wins while her 69 doubles victories rank No. 11 on the career chart.

Akron (19-5 overall, 4-2 MAC) closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 20, at Ball State (15-4 overall, 4-2 MAC).
