Women’s Tennis Concludes Thunder in the Mountains Tourney in Singles Against Toledo

CHARLESTON, W.Va.– The University of Akron women's tennis team concluded play at the Thunder in the Mountains Tournament with singles action against Mid-American Conference foe Toledo on Sunday.
The Zips won two matches. At No. 1, junior Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany) defeated Dee Dee Leenabanchong, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 5, sophomore Claudia Cecilia Rosas Garcia (Gaudalajara, Mexico) beat Christina Fuller, 6-3, 6-1. In exhibition play, sophomore Holland Long (Rochester, N.Y.) defeated Zina Mehikic, 7-5, 6-2.
"It was a great weekend to evaluate how we are going to develop both individually and as a team," said interim head coach Brian Peters. "We were tested with a variety of playing styles against Toledo today which is perfect for a fall tournament. We will be hitting it hard in practice this week continuing to get better."
Akron will participate in the Cleveland State Invitational on Oct. 4-6 with host CSU, Connecticut, and Xavier.
