Akron Picked Fourth in MAC Preseason Women’s Tennis Poll

CLEVELAND – For the third consecutive year, the Mid-American Conference women's tennis coaches have selected Buffalo as the preseason favorite to win the 2020 MAC regular-season title, the league announced on Thursday.
Miami (Ohio) was second, followed by Ball State, Akron, and Western Michigan. Toledo, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, and Northern Illinois rounded out the voting.
Miami (Ohio) was the coaches' votes to win the 2020 MAC Tournament Championship which will be held April 24-26 in Oxford, Ohio.
Under the guidance of interim head coach Brian Peters, Akron opens its spring slate this weekend at home. The Zips host Army on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. and Cincinnati on Sunday, Jan. 19, at Noon. Both matches will be played at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow.
The Zips, who won MAC Championships in 2011 and 2012, return six letterwinners– senior Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal); juniors Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany), Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany); and sophomores Enya Forgaci (Boca Raton, Fla.), Holland Long (Rochester, N.Y.), and Claudia Cecilia Rosas Garcia (Gaudalajara, Mexico).
UA welcome three newcomers– junior transfer Jemi Aguilar (Weston, Fla.), and freshmen Tanja Derowski (Bruckmuehl, Germany) and Aliona Kruglov (Karmiel, Israel).
The Zips' captains are Rita Pedroso and Anna Uljanov.
