Akron Athletics Announces New Major Giving Society - Summit Circle
December 08 | General
Akron, OH. – Akron Athletics and the Zips Athletic Club are excited to announce, The Summit Circle – an exclusive philanthropic giving society designed to maximize the resources for Zips student-athletes and improve the landscape of Akron Athletics.
"For nearly four decades, the Zips Athletic Club has thrived thanks to the generosity of devoted fans that have embraced the philanthropic commitment necessary for sustained athletics success," Director of Athletics Charles Guthrie commented "The introduction of a major giving society aims to cultivate a culture of philanthropic giving and recognize the outstanding contribution of our off-field leaders in the Akron Athletics community."
The Summit Circle is designed to honor donors whose major gift commitments rise above and beyond their annual giving requirements for seats and parking. Gifts can be directed to any of the following funds:
· Capital Projects: Investments in Capital Projects enable Akron Athletics and the Zips Athletic Club to fund capital building projects. These funds help support current projects while also identifying funding for upcoming projects and planning.
· Scholarship Endowments: Scholarship Endowments provide critical long-term sustainable funding for Akron athletic scholarships. Each dollar contributed is invested, and the proceeds are utilized to offset the educational expenses of our student-athletes.
· Sport Specific Funds for Excellence: Each sport at Akron has a fund for excellence that is designated to assist in funding the areas of greatest operational need, as determined by the head coach and Akron Athletics Administration. These funds are vital for teams to have every opportunity to compete for conference and national titles.
Named after the surrounding area of Summit County, the highest elevation on the Ohio & Erie Canal, the Summit Circle embodies the highest point of giving for Akron Athletics. While the Summit Circle is philanthropic in nature, members will have access to unique stewardship opportunities designed to provide a deeper connection with Akron Athletics.
"The funds raised will play a critical role in allowing our coaches and administration to make real time decisions that will affect our student-athletes today and in the future," Senior Associate Athletics Director Camden Stockton said, "This support is instrumental for our programs to be perennially competitive. Contributions made today will yield dividends for years to come."
Membership in the Summit Circle requires a philanthropic major gift financial commitment. Consistent with university policies, major gifts are at least $25,000 or more over a five-year period ($5,000 annually for 5 years) and are recognized for the duration of an active pledge.
