13 Teams Post 3.0 GPA or Higher in Fall Semester

AKRON, Ohio - Student-athletes at the University of Akron combined to achieve a department-wide grade point average of 3.078 in the fall 2023 semester.
Collectively, Akron student-athletes own a cumulative departmental GPA of 3.194, with more than 62 percent of Zips maintaining an individual cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better at Akron.
The Zips registered 30 Academic All-Mid-American Conference selections across its five MAC-sponsored teams for the 2023 fall campaign.
For the fall semester of 2023, 13 of 16 Akron athletics teams achieved a semester grade point average of 3.00 or higher, led by women's soccer earning a program-best 3.690 team GPA for the semester. Additionally, swimming and diving (3.561), volleyball (3.545), men's soccer (3.379), women's cross country (3.371), softball (3.355), women's basketball (3.343), baseball (3.337), golf (3.336), rifle (3.215), women's track and field (3.201), men's cross country (3.145) and lacrosse (3.085) each surpassed the 3.00 team GPA threshold.
The excellence of the Zips in their academic studies was on display as more than 63 percent of Akron's student-athletes, 288 of 456, earned an individual GPA for the term of 3.0 or better, while nearly 42 percent garnered a GPA of 3.50 or higher.
Fifty-five of the Zips' student-athletes garnered a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall semester, including 11 from women's soccer. Swimming and diving followed with eight, to go along with six from baseball, five from women's track and field, four apiece from rifle and softball, three each from football, men's soccer, men's track and field and women's basketball, two each from lacrosse and women's cross country and one from men's cross country.
Additionally, 136 Akron student-athletes posted a GPA between 3.5-3.99 for the fall semester, and 97 followed with individual GPAs in the 3.0-3.49 range.
Football paced the combined list with 35 Zips earning between a 3.0-3.99 for the fall semester. They were followed by baseball (23), men's soccer (23), swimming and diving (18), lacrosse (17), volleyball (16), softball (15), women's soccer (15), women's track and field (14), men's track and field (11), rifle (9), women's cross country (8), women's basketball (7), men's basketball (7), golf (6) and men's cross country (3).
Twenty-two Zips earned their degrees from the University of Akron following the fall 2023 semester.
