Swimming and Diving Captures 11 First Place Finishes in 195-105 Victory Over Bowling Green

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron swimming and diving team defeated the Bowling Green Falcons 195-105 in a dual meet at the Ocasek Natatorium on Friday, November 1.
Akron took first place in 11 events against the Falcons.
The dual started with the 3-meter dive. Laurel Smith finished second with a score of 272.70 and Paige Bush took third with a score of 266.40.
The Zips took first and third in the 200-yard medley relay as the "A" squad of Abigail Daniel (26.15), Claire Cox (28.93), Callie Parkes (25.18) and Aislinn Holder (23.22) finished first with a time of 1:43.48. The "B" squad of Felicia Klintemar (27.22), Rebecca Reid (29.34), Hannah Trainer (25.52) and Madelyn Gatrall (23.64) finished third with a time of 1:45.72.
The Blue and Gold took first and third in the 1000-yard freestyle after Helena Lalkovic finished first with a time of 10:32.91 and Alanis Santiago placed third with a time of 10:42.09.
In the 200-yard freestyle, the Zips placed first and second as Dominika Kossakowska took the top time of 1:52.22 and Elle Couture finished second with a time of 1:52.95.
The 100-yard backstroke featured a pair of Zips capturing the top two spots with Gatrall finishing first with a time of 25.44 and Reid placing second with a time of 25.83.
Akron took the top three spots in the 50-yard breaststroke as Cox placed first (29.33), Daniel finished second (29.73) and Madelyn Bosler finished third (30.34).
The Zips once again were leading the pack as Maggie Patterson swam the top time (2:03.91) in the 200-yard butterfly.
The Blue and Gold took second through fourth in the 50-yard freestyle as Holder placed second with a time of 23.76, Parkes finished third with a time of 24.11 and Trainer took fourth with a time of 24.19.
Akron took home second and third in the one-meter dive. Elizabeth Noble finished second with a score of 271.80 while Smith finished third with a score of 265.60.
The Blue and Gold finished second and third in the 100-yard freestyle as Brienne Trumpower took second with a time of 52.17 and Trainer finished third with a time of 52.77.
Gatrall swam the fastest time in the 200-yard backstroke after posting a time of 2:01.77. The Zips took second through fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with Daniel finishing second (2:20.56), Cox placing third (2:20.72) and Bosler finishing fourth (2:21.51).
Couture and Santiago took the top two times in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:00.24 and 5:13.52. The Zips then swept the top three times in the 50-yard butterfly with Reid (25.32) finishing first, Holder (25.42) finishing second and Klintemar (25.53) finishing third.
Ried (56.87), Daniel (56.99), Klintemar (59.19) and Kendall Craig (59.71) took the top four spots in the 100-yard IM while the Zips would claim the top two times in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The "A" team of Gatrall (24.11), Couture (24.36), Holder (23.34) and Trainer (23.34) finished first with a time of 1:35.15 while the "B" team of Trumpower (23.95), Lalkovic (24.62), Cox (23.88) and Kossakowska (23.89) finished second with a time of 1:36.34.

The Zips head to Cleveland State to take part in the Magnus Cup Invitational from November 21-23.
