Zips Conclude Day One of the Magnus Cup in First Place

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Akron opened the 2025 Magnus Cup Invitational with a dominant first night, stacking event titles and relay success to build a commanding lead in the women's standings.
Through the first day, Akron leads the women's team standings with 488 points, well ahead of Northern Colorado (371.5) and Xavier (261).
The Zips were led by Avery Knight, who captured the 200-yard individual medley in 2:02.45, the fastest time of the night and the first individual title of the meet for Akron.
Hannah Trainer followed in a tie for third at 2:06.11, giving the Zips two top-three finishers in the event.
Akron also shined in the 50-yard freestyle, where Ada Szwabinska placed third in 22.79, with teammates Felicia Klintemar (5th, 22.94) and Callie Parkes (8th, 23.24) crowding the A-final. Trainer returned to finish ninth in 23.37, giving Akron four swimmers in the top 10.
The Zips' breaststroke group delivered major points early. In the 50 breast, Claire Cox and Szwabinska tied for third at 28.84, while Isabella Pribonic, Efthymia Mazaraki, Cora Spetz and Madelyn Bosler all scored in the B-final, showcasing the team's depth in the stroke.
Akron swept the top spot in the 50 backstroke, with Klintemar winning in 24.98 and Abbey Cronin placing fifth in 25.61. Knight added another strong swim, taking 11th from the B-final in 26.20Â
The Zips closed the night with a statement victory in the 400 medley relay, as Knight, Cox, Klintemar and Szwabinska combined for 3:39.59, edging Northern Colorado for the win and sealing Akron's status atop the leaderboard through Day 1.
Akron also picked up points in the 500 freestyle, where Ava Withey placed 14th in 5:02.25, and in the 200 IM D-final with Carrie Caniglia finishing 34th.
Elizabeth Noble gave the Zips a third-place finish in the 1-meter dive with a score of 253.20 while Sophia Stamm and Paige Bush finished 7th and 10th with scores of 226.15 and 227.45, respectively.
