Zips Earn Three Titles on Opening Day of MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

ATHENS, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team turned in a strong start on the opening day of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Ohio at Goldsberry Track on Thursday (May 15) as the Zips captured a trio of league titles.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Redshirt senior Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) captured his fourth straight outdoor and ninth overall MAC title in the men's pole vault eclipsing 18-0.50 (5.50m).
• Freshman Moses Lekokei (Kilgoris, Kenya) captured his third overall league title winning the men's 10,000 meters in a time of 31:07.83, while freshman Emil Stanford (Sunbury, Ohio) added team points placing seventh with a career-best time of 34:24.39.
• Senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) captured her third overall league title in the women's pole vault winning a jump-off with a clearance of 12-11.50 (3.95m). Sophomore Jessica Mason (Holland, Ohio) added team points placing fourth eclipsing a career-best mark of 12-7.50 (3.85m).
• Senior Lane Graham (Killbuck, Ohio) and sophomore Christopher Vance (Parma, Ohio) placed second and third, respectively, in the men's hammer with marks of 207-7 (63.29m) and 195-6 (59.58m). Adding team points with a sixth-place performance was redshirt senior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green, Ohio) with a throw of 186-5 (56.82m).
• Tallying points in the men's pole vault with second- and third-place finishes were freshmen Isaac Baltic (Medina, Ohio) and Kaden Rambatt (Sharon, Wis.). Baltic eclipsed a career-best mark of 17-0.25 (5.19m), while Rambatt cleared the bar at 16-0.50 (4.89m).
• Redshirt junior Gabrielle Griffiths (Fort Worth, Texas) placed fourth in the women's javelin with a throw of 140-2 (42.73m).
• Redshirt senior Jacob Glavickas (Orwell, Ohio) netted team points placing fourth in the men's javelin with a mark of 178-3 (54.35m).
• Contributing team points in the women's hammer with marks of 179-2 (54.61m), 179-2 (54.61m) and 171-3 (52.21m), respectively, to place fifth through seventh was sophomore Victoria Kuol (Centerville, Ohio), Griffiths and redshirt senior Brook Boes (Tiffin, Ohio).
• Sophomore Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio) netted team points placing eighth in the women's 10,000 meters in a career-best time of 36:17.53.
• Senior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) paced all qualifiers in the women's 200 meters with a career-best time of 23.41 to advance into the finals.
• Qualifying for the finals of the men's 200 meters with times of 20.92 and 20.93 were sophomores AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio) and Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas).
• Advancing to the finals in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 55.14 was sophomore Cameron Corrothers (Maple Heights, Ohio).
