EUGENE, Ore. – University of Akron men's track and field team capped its 2025 campaign with a pair of Zips earning All-America status at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Oregon at Historic Heyward Field on Wednesday (June 11).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Redshirt senior Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) capped his decorated Akron career in the men's pole vault. Persevering through injury, he was unable to clear the bar at the 17-9.75 (5.43m) before passing his final two attempts at the height. His two opportunities at 18-1.75 (5.53m) also were not successful.
• Freshman Bismack Kipchirchir (Eldama Ravine) garnered Second-Team All-America accolades registering the 12th-best semifinal effort in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase crossing the line in 8:35.58. The top five finishers in each heat and the next two top times advanced to Friday's final with Kipchirchir falling one spot shy of an appearance in the finals.
