Akron Duo Earns MAC Player of the Week Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - University of Akron junior goalkeeper Sara Bower (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman defender Luisa Fragnoli (Medina, Ohio) have been tabbed by the Mid-American Conference as its Women's Soccer Goalkeeper and Defensive Players of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday, Aug. 19.

Bower turned in back-to-back shutouts to open the campaign to extend the Zips' shutout streak to seven consecutive non-conference games dating back to the 2024 campaign. On the week, she pulled in 11 saves en route to not surrendering a goal.Â

In a 0-0 draw at Purdue Fort Wayne, she registered seven saves, facing 12 shots, including seven on net. She followed with a four-save performance in a 1-0 victory over Eastern Illinois.

Fragnoli turned in a strong start to her collegiate debut helping the Zips post back-to-back shutouts.Â

Fragnoli earned the start in her collegiate debut and allowed the Zips to earn the shutout in a 0-0 draw at Purdue Fort Wayne. She followed by netting her first collegiate goal, a game-winner, in the 14th minute of a 1-0 win over Eastern Illinois. Fragnoli was able to help Akron lock down Eastern Illinois and limit the Panthers to only four shots on goal to secure the shutout.

Akron travels to Morgantown, W.Va., for a showdown with West Virginia at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday (Aug. 21).
