Akron's Ngongang Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

BIG EAST CONFERENCE MEN'S SOCCER WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS RELEASE
NEW YORK - University of Akron men's soccer freshman Farrel Ngongang (Montreal, Quebec) was honored by the BIG EAST Conference as its Men's Soccer Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday, Aug. 25.

Seniors Stefan Dobrijevic (Uniontown, Ohio) and Ashton Kamdem (West Chester, Ohio) were also named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.

Ngongang turned in a strong collegiate debut week registering team-high marks in goals (1), assists (1), points (3), shots (5) and shots on goal (2) to spark the Zips to wins at VCU and versus Northern Kentucky. He assisted on redshirt sophomore Tyler Morck's (Bethpage, N.Y.) 63rd-minute goal at VCU before netting his first career goal in the 66th minute. Ngongang finished the evening with four shots, including one shot on goal before adding one shot on goal in Akron's 1-0 win over Northern Kentucky.

Dobrijevic recorded team-high marks in goals (1), assists (1), points (3), shots on goal (2) and game-winners (1). He netted the game-winning goal in the 40th minute in a 3-0 win at VCU before contributing an assist on Ngongang's tally in the 66th minute. He finished the evening with three shots, including a pair on goal.

Kamdem and the Zips limited the Rams to only five shots on the evening and only one shot on goal. Kamdem and Akron were even more impressive in a win over Northern Kentucky holding the Norse to four shots, with only one on frame.

The 21st-rated Zips return to action on Friday (Aug. 29) with a 7 p.m. showdown versus No. 9 West Virginia at FirstEnergy Stadium.
