Zips Cruise Past Toledo, 209-52

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Akron swimming team cruised to a 209-52 victory over Toledo in a Mid-American Conference dual.
Akron improved to 3-0 in the MAC with the win.
Akron started the meet taking the top two spots in the 200 MR as the "Z" squad of Abbey Cronin, Isabella Pribonic, Avery Knight and Cora Spetz finished first with a time of 1:44.62 while the "I" squad of Natalia Zaiteva, Ada Szwabinska, Martyna Piesko and Hannah Trainer finished second with a time of 1:45.92.
In the 1000 Free, the Zips took the top three times, as Elle Couture (10:32.01), Maggie Patterson (10:37.75) and Ava Withey (10:46.21) led the way.
Akron kept on dominating, with the 200 Free featuring the Zips in first and second. Helena Lalkovic (1:54.55) took first and Brienne Trumpower (1:54.83) finished second. The Blue and Gold took the top four spots in the 100 Back, as Piesko (58.23) finished first while Knight (58.29) and Zaiteva (59.30) took second and third.
Claire Cox led the way in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:05.08 while Efthymia Mazaraki took second with a time of 1:06.70.
In the 200 Fly, Addy Soehnlen took gold with a time of 2:05.78 while Patterson took silver with a time of 2:05.86.
Szwabinska set a new pool record at Toledo in the 50 Free with a time of 22.94 while Callie Pakres finished second with a time of 23.71.
The 100 Free once again saw the Zips take gold, with Szwabinska finishing with a time of 51.12. Spetz took third with a time of 52.78.
Akron swept the top three times in the 200 Back, with Cronin (2:06.01), Zaiteva (2:06.62) and Piesko (2:08.36) leading the charge.
Madelyn Bosler took gold in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:23.55 while Couture (5:07.70) and Lalkvoic (5:07.87) finished first and second in the 500 Free.
The Zips took the top four times in the 100 Fly, with Callie Parkes leading the Zips with a time of 56.77.
Knight placed first in the 200 IM (2:09.58) while Withey finished third (2:14.89).
Akron concluded the head-to-head meeting with the Rockets with a first and second-place finish in the 400 FR. The "I" squad of Trumpower, Lalkovic, Parkes and Trainer (3:29.16) claimed gold while the "Z" squad of Piesko, Couture, Spetz and Szwabinska (3:32.77) claimed silver.
What's Next
Akron heads to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Tim Welsh Classic on the campus of Notre Dame. The Classic is set to run from January 23 through January 24.
