Allen Leads Akron in Strong Home Performance Against No. 8 Navy

AKRON, Ohio – Freshman Maddie Allen continued the impressive start to her collegiate career as the No. 15 University of Akron rifle team turned in its best performance of the young season in a 4,732-4,674 setback against No. 8 Navy on Saturday (Oct. 3).
Hosting the U.S. Naval Academy for the first time since 2022, the Zips showed improvement in their second match of the season, posting a season-best aggregate score of 4,674. Navy continued its strong start to the campaign with a 4,732, its second-highest team score of the season.
Smallbore
Allen led the way for Akron in smallbore, firing a 583 out of 600 to finish sixth overall. The freshman continues to make an immediate impact for the Zips, building on a promising start to her first collegiate season.
Sophomore Kathleen Moran also delivered a strong performance, joining Allen in the 580s with a score of 581.
Air Rifle
Akron turned in its strongest performances of the day in air rifle, once again led by Allen.
The Somerset, Pa., native fired a 592 out of 600, earning third place overall and completing an impressive afternoon in which she paced the Zips in both disciplines.
Sophomore Matt Kimball added a strong 590 for Akron.
Navy displayed why it entered the match among the nation's top-ranked programs, as Tyler Wee and Hannah Talbot each fired a 599, finishing just one point shy of perfection.
The Zips also flashed their potential throughout the air rifle competition, recording six individual perfect 100 series. With each athlete firing six 10-shot series, Akron shooters hit the center for all 10 shots on six separate occasions.
