Akron Selected to Win 2026-27 MAC Swimming and Diving Championship in MAC Preseason Poll

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The University of Akron Zips Swimming & Diving team was predicted to finish first in the 2026-27 Preseason Swimming & Diving Coaches Poll, the conference office announced Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Akron earned eight of the nine possible first-place votes for 64 points, while Ohio registered one first-place vote and finished in the runner-up position with 57 points.

The Zips are coming off their Fifth consecutive MAC Championship and the 12th in the past 13 seasons after lifting the hardware at Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium in 2026.

The Blue and Gold sent a pair of swimmers to the 2026 NCAA National Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta, Ga. as Claire Cox and Felicia Klintemar. Cox placed 41st in the 100 breast with a 1:00.62 time, while Klintemar set a pair of records in the 100 fly, becoming the first swimmer in MAC and Akron history to post a sub-51 second time (50.89) while placing ninth overall. She also finished 27th in the 200IM with a 1:58.28 time. Akron placed fifth overall at the CSCAA National Championships in Ocala, Fla.

Akron will begin the 2026-27 season with a dual meet against Bowling Green at Cooper Pool on Friday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. Akron debuts the 2026-27 squad at home for the Annual Zips Classic at the Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium from October 16-17.
