Former Zip Connor O’Mara returned to his alma mater this season as the assistant rifle coach.
A 2017 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, O’Mara worked in oil and gas engineering in Rochester N.Y. for two years. During that time, he became a youth precision rifle coach at the Rochester Rifle Club, teaching fundamentals of precision rifle shooting to juniors.
In early 2019, O’Mara returned to the Akron area to begin engineering work in the tire industry.
A four-year letterwinner for the Zips (2013-17), O’Mara served as a team captain as a senior in 2016-17. A 2017 CRCA Scholastic All-American, he was a Mid-Atlantic Conference champion. During his collegiate career, O’Mara recorded career-high scores of a 580 in smallbore and 592 in air rifle.
A native of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., O’Mara won individual and team gold medalist for outdoor smallbore prone at the 2010 New York Empire State Games. He was the 2012 North East Regional smallbore outdoor prone champion.
