Marc Smith was named the Associate Athletics Director - Athlete Academic Services in February of 20223 after serving 10 years (2012-22) as Assistant Athletics Director - Athlete Academic Services (Sept. 2022-Feb. 2023) and Coordinator of Academic Support Services at The University of Akron. He works exclusively with the men's basketball and track and field programs. Additionally, Smith lectures in the Sports Science & Wellness Department.
Prior to joining the Akron staff after 17 years as a collegiate men's basketball coach. He was the head coach for men's basketball and women's tennis at Millikin University for four seasons. Smith spent five seasons as the head men's basketball coach and associate athletics director at Keystone College. He was also an assistant men's basketball coach at Millikin (1998-02), Mount Union (1997-98) and Martin Methodist (1997-97).
A 1993 graduate of Lincoln Memorial University with a bachelor's degree in business management, Smith earned a master's degree in sports science from Ashland University in 1996.
Smith and his wife, Faith, reside in Akron with their children, Marc, Jr., and Kaileigh.
