Swimming and Diving Loses to Miami

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron swimming and diving team was defeated by Miami on Saturday at Ocasek Natatorium.
Catherine Carr (200-yard IM), Leeanna Hoover (3-meter diving), and Carla McNamara (1-meter diving all won events for Akron (1-1).
Carr took the top time (2:09.91) in the 200-yard individual medley when she finished just ahead of Miami's Leah Thornton. Carr finished as the runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing less than a half-second behind event winner Maegan O'Conner.
Hoover produced a score of 274.42 to win the 3-meter springboard. Hoover had finished second behind McNamara in the 1-meter springboard earlier in the meet. McNamara won the 1-meter with a 6-dive total of 296.25.
Junior Becca Zimmer picked up a pair of second-place finishes during the meet. Zimmer first took second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:55.20. She also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:11.15.
Akron will once again compete at Ocasek Natatorium next Saturday. The Zips will take on Ball St. at 1:00 p.m.
