Swimming and Diving Dropped by Oakland at Ocasek Natatorium

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron swimming and diving team was dropped by Oakland, 155-145, Saturday afternoon at Ocasek Natatorium.
Kelsea Cross and Kelsey Ferrante took the top two spots in the 100-yard backstroke. Cross took the win with a time of 58.25 with Ferrante finishing in 1:00.47. Cross and Ferrante teamed up again to take the top two spots in the 200-yard backstroke as well. Cross won the event in 2:08.00.
Taylor Hart and Jessica Ickes also finished first and second, this time in the 50-yard freestyle. Hart was first in 24.39 and Ickes was a few ticks back at 24.52.
Meg Finnerty and Ickes were first and second in the 100-yard freestyle. Finnerty won the heat in 53.06 and Ickes finished in 53.68.
Finnerty took second in the 200-yard freestyle and Kendra Colby was the runner up in the 100-yard breaststroke. Cat Carr grabbed a pair of runner-up finishes, taking second in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley.
In the diving events, the duo of Carla McNamara and Leeanna Hoover took first and second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving. McNamara had the top score in the 1-meter (293.85) and Hoover won the 3-meter (298.42).
The 400-yard freestyle relay team took the win in the day's final event. The team of Ickes, Hart, Becca Emerich, and Finnerty finished in a time of 3:32.33.
The Zips are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Marshall. The meet begins at 2:00 p.m.
