Buffalo Defeats Swimming and Diving, 165-133

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University of Akron swimming and diving team fell to Buffalo, 165-133, in a Mid-American Conference dual meet Saturday afternoon at UB's Alumni Arena Natatorium. Junior Catherine Carr and sophomore Kelsey Ferrante each won two events for the Zips (1-2, 0-2 MAC).
Carr won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:09.87, leading an Akron sweep of that event, while also taking the top spot in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.84. In addition, Carr notched a runner-up showing in the 500 free (5:04.44).
Ferrante swept the backstroke events for the second week in a row as she won the 100 back in 58.57 and the 200 back in 2:06.51. Freshman Erin Seiler also picked up a win as she placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (57.97)
Following Carr in the 200 IM were senior Kelsea Cross in second (2:13.91) and Seiler in third (2:14.91). Cross was also second in the 200 back (2:07.89) and sophomore Amanda Lawson was runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.20). Lawson also added a third place finish in the 100 breast (1:06.46).
Also earning third place finishes for the Zips were freshman Ashley Drazkowski in the 1000 free (10:44.43), senior Becca Zimmer in the 200 free (1:54.64) and sophomore Taylor Hart in the 100 free (55.06).
In the diving competition, junior Amy Dorow was second in the 1-meter (237.53) and third in the 3-meter (226.13).
Akron took the top spot in the 200 free relay as Hart and Carr combined with freshmen Ashley Niznik and Hannah Raspopovich to win in 1:39.14. In the 200 medley relay, the Zips were second in 1:47.62. That relay consisted of Cross, junior Kendra Colby, Seiler and Hart.
UB's Alumni Arena Natatorium is also the host of this year's MAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships from Feb. 28-Mar. 2, 2013.
Akron returns home to Ocasek Natatorium next Saturday, Nov. 10 as it hosts St. Francis (Pa.) University at 1 p.m.
