Nicholson Climbs to the No. 2 Spot, Zips 10th After Two Rounds at Rio Verde Invitational

Rio Verde, Ariz. – Sophomore Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) fired a 2-under par 70 score while leading the Zips to a second 306 (+18) team tally at the Rio Verde Invitational on Saturday. Akron currently ranks 10th on the team leaderboard with a 612 (+36) two-round total at the par-72 White Wing course stretches 6,215 yards.
Nicholson climbed four spots on the player board to No. 2 after the 2-under performance during round two. She buried five birdies to go along with 10 pars and three bogies, brining her 36-hole total to a 1-under 143. Nicholson is currently tied at the runner-up position with Northern Arizona's Sierra Bezdicek, who is playing as an individual.
Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) continues to lead the team after rounds of 295 (+7) and 296 (+8) for a 591 (+15) total. Eastern Michigan follows in second (597, +21) while Northern Illinois is third (599, +23) and Northern Arizona, Wichita State, and Central Arkansas are tied for fourth (602, +26).
Freshman Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) followed in scoring for the Zips with a 78 (+6) second round, while senior Alejandra Velasco-Villanueva (Guadalajara, Mexico) and sophomore Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) added 79 (+7) scores. Junior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) recorded an 81 (+9) 18-hole round, brining her tournament total to 155 (+11). Dull currently ranks 61st with a 157 (+13) total, Velasco-Villanueva is 75th at 160 (+16), and Wentworth is 85th with a 162 (+18).
Junior Mallory Etcheberry (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), playing as an individual, recorded rounds of 84 (+12) and 82 (+10) for a 166 (+22) tournament total.
Sunday's final round of the Rio Verde Invitational is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. ET. Akron is scheduled to tee off from holes No. 8-11.
