Akron, Pikunas Finish Runner-Up at the Bradley Spring Invitational at Brookhaven

Farmers Branch, Texas – The Akron Zips women's golf team fired a 309 (+17) final round at the Bradley Spring Break Invitational to climb one spot into the runner-up position with a 921 (+45) team total on Tuesday at the par 73, 6,187 yard Brookhaven Country Club.
UA freshman Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) led Akron's scoring with a 224 (+5) total and finished in a three-way tie for first place, forcing a playoff. After three holes, Houston Baptist's Kaity Cummings prevailed in the playoff to earn medalist honors. Pikunas earned runner-up and Northern Illinois' Brielle Ward ended in the third spot. Pikunas led the field by one stroke after 36 holes on rounds of 76 (+3) and 71 (-2), and fired a 77 (+4) final round to remain on the top of the leaderboard.

Junior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) climbed 12 spots on the leaderboard during the final round. She finished 11th overall with a 231 (+12) due back-to-back rounds of 75 (+2) scores. She opened the event with an 81 (+8) tally.

Finishing third in scoring for Akron and one stroke behind Nicholson was freshman Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio). Pearce followed a 79 (+6) and 77 (+4) with a 76 (+3) final round for a 15th overall ranking at 232 (+13).

Senior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) and sophomore Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) rounded out the Zips scoring. Her placed 22nd overall with a 234 (+15) ledger, while Wentworth scored 260 (+41) for an 84th place showing.
The Zips completed the 54-hole tournament 12 strokes behind the tournament champions Houston Baptist, 909 (+33), and five strokes better than the third-place finishers and Mid-American Conference member Northern Illinois, 926 (+50).

The Zips will be back in action at the Kingsmill Women's Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va. On Monday and Tuesday, March 19-20. The tournament is scheduled to be played at the Kingsmill Resort.
