Naperville, Ill. – The Akron Zips women's golf team fired a 310 (+22) team score en route to a fourth-place tie with Northern Illinois after the opening round at the Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships on Friday.

Kent State leads the team scoring with a 6-under par 282 first round total, while Toledo and Eastern Michigan are second and third, respectively, with 303 (+15) and 305 (+17) scores.

Pimnipa Panthong led the individual scoring 67 (-5) at the par-72, 6,028-yard Naperville Country Club, while Akron freshman Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) and senior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) currently rank inside the Top 10. Pikunas fired a team-low 73 (+1) opening round score for a fifth-place tie and Her followed with a 74 (+2) tally and seventh-place tie. Pikunas used 11 pars and three birdies for the 1-over effort, while Her carded 10 pars and three birdies for the 2-over performance.

Junior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) landed in the Top 20 after the MAC Championship debut round with a 78 (+6) score. Nicholson recorded 10 pars and two birdies en route to a 20^th place tie.

Rounding out the Zips' scoring freshman Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) and Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.). Pearce posted an 85 (+13) score in her first-ever MAC Championship round, while Wentworth added an 86 (+14) ledger. Pearce is currently ranked 44^th and Wentworth 47^th.

The Zips are scheduled to be back in action at Naperville Country Club on Saturday. The course will be lengthened to 6, 092 yards for the final two rounds. Akron is set to tee-off at 11:40 a.m. ET from hole No. 1 with Wentworth leading the way. Pearce, Nicholson, Her, and Pikunas are scheduled to follow Wentworth in 10-minute intervals .
