AKRON, Ohio – The Akron women's swimming and diving team added to its lead on the second day of the Zippy Invitational as the Zips established a 1,383-1,076 advantage over Buffalo at Ocasek Natatorium on Saturday.

For a second consecutive day, the Akron swimmers posted several NCAA B-Cut Times and junior Sarah Watson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) tied a school record.

During the final event of the day, Watson tied the 200 freestyle school mark with a 1:45.93 time as she led the 800 freestyle relay team to a win (7:19.46). In addition, Watson was a member of the 200 medley relay team that opened the day with a win and a 1:38.33 time.

Overall, the Zips won 6-of-8 events and Watson accounted for three wins. In addition to the pair of relay victories, Watson touched first in the 100 butterfly with a 52.34 time which stands at a b-cut time. Watson also set a b-cut time in the 100 Fly prelims (52.57).

Also capturing individual wins were freshman Astrid Halvorsen (Stroemmen, Norway), senior Paula Garcia (Madrid, Spain) and freshman Madelyn Gatrall (Windsor, Canada). Halvorsen set a b-cut time with a 4:15.53 in the 400 individual medley. Garcia won the 100 breaststroke and hit a pair of b-cut times as she flew to a 1:00.51 fastest time. In the same event, junior Andrea Fischer (Oak Grove, Minn.) placed runner-up with a 1:01.05 b-cut qualifying time. Rounding out the individual winners was Gatrall, who hit a b-cut standard with a 53.64 win in the 100 backstroke.

Garcia, junior Sofia Henell (Linkoping, Sweden) and junior Lauren Cooper (Dublin, Ohio) were members of the winning 800 freestyle relay team, while Garcia, sophomore Victoria Kaufman (Westminster, Md.) and freshman Rachel Sabotin (Columbus, Ind.) joined Watson in the 800 Free win.

Traditionally, the Zippy Invitational consists of 10 teams competing over the three-day span. However, this year's event features Buffalo and Akron head-to-head competition. The meet is closed to the public and scheduled to stream live by Zips Digital Network on GoZips.com.

Sunday's prelims are scheduled for 10 a.m. followed by the finals at 4 p.m.

The Zips are looking for their seventh consecutive Zippy Invitational Championship as Akron made it six-in-a-row last season with a 407-point victory over a 10-team field.
