Akron Swimming Opens New Year at Notre Dame’s Shamrock Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron swimming and diving team looks to start the new year with a strong showing at the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Notre Dame at Rolfs Aquatic Center on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23.
Akron is currently 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Mid-American Conference action, defeating Eastern Michigan (204-96) and Ohio (207.5-92.5) in league competition while placing first at its Zippy Invitational with 1,953 points.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, Notre Dame and Akron will be the only teams competing at the 2021 Shamrock Invitational. The Zips are currently ranked No. 15 (777.85 points) in the country by CollegeSwimming.com and No. 25 (43 points) in the CSCAA, while the Irish are ranked No. 17 (775.15 points) and No. 26 (14 points), respectively.
The women's first session is scheduled to begin on Friday, Jan. 22 at 5 p.m. followed by two sessions on Saturday, Jan. 23. The morning session on the final day of competition is slated for a 10 a.m. start while the finals are set to begin at 5:15 p.m.
