AKRON, Ohio- The Akron Zips volleyball team (6-7, 0-1 MAC) fell 3-0 (8-25, 16-25, 22-25)to Bowling Green in the home opener at James A. Rhodes Arena on Friday evening.

Senior Teagan Ochaya (Mentor, Ohio) registered a .444 hitting percentage while leading the Zips' offense with 10 kills on 18 attempts. In addition, Teagan led above the net with two block assists. Sophomore Faith Johnson (Naperville, Ill.) followed with nine kills and a block assist.

Senior Emily Weigand (Burton, Ohio) led the team with 29 assists, while senior Taylor Sharrits (Concord, Ohio) and Adleta finished with 36 and 10 digs, respectively.

How It Happened

Bowling Green led by as many as 16 points (20-4) in the opening set. Ochaya registered four of the Zips' six kills in the opener. The Falcons' defense held the Zips to a -.034 hitting percentage after Akron committed seven attack errors on 29 swings.
The Falcons continued to leave their foot on the gas after winning the second, 25-16. Johnson and junior Laura Latka (Zionsville, Ind.) led the Zips with five and four kills.
Coming out of the break, the Zips were much more competitive and trailed by one (16-17) in the middle of the set. Offensively, the Zips improved hitting .294 percent. Akron used a late 4-0 run to come within one of the Falcons, 23-22, but the Falcons closed out the set, 25-22, and match.
