Pikunas Lands in Top 20 at Spring Break Shootout

Dade City, Fla. – Senior Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) climbed six places on the players' leaderboard to finish in the Top 20 as the Akron women's golf team finished 14th overall at the 2023 Spring Break Shootout held at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Pikunas fired a 1-over par 72 on the final day of competition, finishing with a 221-stroke 54-hole total on rounds of 76 (+5), 73 (+2) and 72 (+1). With the final 18-hole round tally, Pikunas elevated to 19th overall in the 90-golfer field, ascending six spots as she entered the round at 25th overall.
Avery Wright followed with a 234 (+21) tournament total, while Jessica Hahn and Abbi Fleiner each carded 236 (+23) ledgers. Rounding out the Zips' scoring was Daphne van Son with a 247 (+34) total.
Western Kentucky erased an eight stroke deficit to claim the team tournament crown, posting a 10-over par team total with 296-284-282 – 862 scores. Florida Gulf Coast earned team runner-up (+16, 868).
Moorhead State's Ruth Toennessen earned medalist honors with a 3-under par 71-67-72 – 210 total, followed by Arkansas State's Olivia Schmidt even-par 72-70-71 – 213 for runner-up honors.
The Zips are scheduled to be back in action on Monday-Wednesday, March 27-29 at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club for the Golfweek/AGT in Pawleys Island, S.C.
