Late Surge by the Bison to Defeat the Zips 3-2

AKRON, OH --Lauren Baker and Faith Johnson each recorded double-doubles, but it wasn't enough as the Akron volleyball team lost to the Bucknell Bison 3-2 (25-13, 26-24, 24-26, 22-25, 13-15) Friday at home at James A Rhodes Arena.
The Zips were led by the double-doubles from Baker, who had 11 kills and 10 digs, and Johnson, who had 12 kills and 12 digs. Karleighana Jones added 11 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Vanessa Del Real chipped in for with 29 digs to go with eight blocks from Ellen Kinnaird.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips won the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set 25-13. Akron led by as many as 13 points at 22-9 before closing out the set. Akron also supplemented their offense with six aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Akron put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 26-24 victory in set number two. The Zips came out on top of a tight second set, winning in a stanza that was tied three times and had one lead change. The Akron offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza. Akron's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Bucknell attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Akron couldn't end the match in a sweep, dropping the third set to make their lead two sets to one in the match. The Zips dropped a close set, losing 26-24 in a stanza that was tied seven times and had two lead changes.
SET 4 | Akron then dropped their second straight set 25-22 to bring the match level at two sets apiece. The Zips battled back from an eight-point hole at 15-7, but it wasn't enough as Bucknell hung on to win the set.
SET 5 | Akron grabbed a 2-0 set lead, but dropped the next three sets on their way to losing the match. The Zips took set five to the wire, but came up just short. Akron had a lead early in the set at 3-2 before Bucknell took over and finished the match with a 15-13 victory.
