Karleighana Jones Sets Single Season Hitting Percentage Record - Zips Fall to CMU on Senior Day

AKRON, Ohio -The Akron volleyball team lost to the Central Michigan Chippewas in five sets (24-26, 25-19, 29-31, 25-18, 10-15) Saturday at home at James A Rhodes Arena as Karleighana Jones broke the single-season hitting percentage record.
Jones set a new single-season hitting percentage record after concluding her career as a Zip with a .397 hitting percentage this season. The previous record was held by Tina Dimitrijevs who hit .367 in 2010.
The Zips offense was paced by Lauren Baker, who finished with 15 kills on the night. Delaney Gash added 14 and Emanouela Christodoulou chipped in with 13 as part of balanced Akron attack. Jones had eight kills as well while Ellen Kinnaird added seven. Defensively, Akron had three players reach double figures in digs, including Vanessa Del Real's 18, 13 from Reilly Chausse, and 10 more from Vytiskova. From the front row,  Kinnaird contributed five blocks while Gash added four more. Vytiskova also recorded her 17th double-double of the season with her 52 assists and 10 digs.
The loss dropped Akron's record to 11-19 overall and 7-11 in MAC play.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips fell in a tight first set, losing 26-24 in a game that was tied 10 times and had three lead changes.
SET 2 | Akron responded to pick up a 25-19 victory in the second set, evening the match at one set apiece. The Zips grabbed the set with the help of a solid showing on the attacking end. Akron registered a .346 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set win. The Zips ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.
SET 3 | Akron lost set three, putting the Zips in a 2-1 hole. The Zips dropped a close set, losing 31-29 in a stanza that was tied 12 times and had eight lead changes.
SET 4 | Akron then responded to win set four 25-18 to force a fifth set. The Zips took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure the victory. Akron finished up the stanza on a strong note, claiming its biggest lead, seven points, to close out the set. Akron also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.
SET 5 | Akron was on the wrong side of a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but losing the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-10, to fall in the match. The Zips had a lead early in the set at 8-7 before Central Michigan took over.
