AKRON, Ohio – Top-rated West Virginia backed up its ranking on Senior Day on Sunday (Jan. 26) as the Mountaineers bested the 11th-ranked University of Akron rifle team, 4747-4711, at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range.
Redshirt senior Gavin Perkowski (Bolivar, Ohio) led the Zips in the air rifle with a team-best 594 score. Redshirt senior Erin Schnupp (Gorham, Maine) and junior Rachael Paddock (Perry, N.Y.) added 592 totals.
Junior Natalia Siek (Flemington, N.J.) set a career-high smallbore mark at 590, only one shy of the school record. Contributing 585 totals in the smallbore for Akron was senior Alexis Kirk (Clarence Center, N.Y.), Paddock, Perkowski and Schnupp.
The Zips honored seniors Rachel Engels (Meridian, Idaho), Joey Hahn (Middle Grove, N.Y.), Kirk, Perkowski, Schnupp and senior Cory Stroupe (Brasstown, N.C.) in Senior Day festivities following the match.
Akron returns to competition at Morehead State on Saturday (Feb. 8).
