Akron Dominant on Senior Night

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips celebrated 2025 Senior Night in dominant fashion, defeating the Ball State Cardinals 201-81 at Ocasek Natatorium on Friday Night.
Prior to the meet, Akron recognized the 11-member 2025 Blue and Gold Senior Class including Dinica Bosman, Kendall Craig, Abigail Daniel, McKenzie Dunigan, Madelyn Gatrall, Aislinn Holder, Dominika Kossakowska, Julia Mauter, Grace Nuhfer, Rebecca Reid and Laurel Smith.
The Zips swept the podium in the first two events, claimed first and third in the third and won the fourth with their lone entry.
Gatrall (54.77) opened the meet with a gold in the 100 backstroke as Daniel (56.32) and Mauter (57.51) followed in second and third positions, respectively. In the 100 breaststroke, Akron claimed the top four positions as Claire Cox stopped the timer first with a 1:04.13 touch followed by Craig (1:05.71), Madelyn Bosler (1:06.12) and Bosman (1:06.19).
Holder claimed the 100 butterfly with a 55.51 time and Hannah Trainer placed third with a 56.66 time. Akron continued its winning ways with a 10:22.04 performance by Elle Couture for the 1000 freestyle gold medal.
The fifth event of the evening was much of the same as Kossakowska claimed the top spot in the 200 freestyle with a 1:52.01 time followed by Helena Lalkovic (1:52.44), Gatrall (1:56.11) and Alanis Santiago (1:56.87) for the four-position sweep.
Akron claimed the silver in the 50 freestyle as Holder posted a time of 23.77. The Zips bounced back for another gold medal in the 200 Individual medley as Reid posted 2:04.73 winning time.
Akron also shined in 3-meter diving with Smith claiming gold. Smith posted a 305.40 final score, while Elizabeth Noble finishing second overall with a 300.38 score.
With the swimmers back in the water, Akron won three more events with Daniel earning the top of the podium in the 200 butterfly with a 2:02.87 time, while Addy Soehnlen placed third with a 2:12.27 time.
In the 100 freestyle, Adrianna Szwabinska (51.33) touched second overall followed by Kossakowska (51.81), Brienne Trumpower (52.56) and Helena Lalkovic (53.79). Reid and Mauter stopped the timer first and second in the 200 backstroke with Reid claiming gold at 2:01.63 and Mauter second at 2:05.12.
Couture found her way back on the top winner's podium after a 5:04.10 performance in the 500 freestyle.
Back at the diving well, Noble won the 1-meter competition with a 274.50 score.
The Zips ended the night with a pair of wins in the 200 breaststroke and freestyle relay events. Bosler (2:22.09) won the 200 breast and Craig touched second (2:22.47). The team of Swabinski, Holder Reid and Nuhfer posted the final win of the evening with a 1:34.77 time in the 200 free relay.
Akron will be back in action on Feb. 26 through March 1 at the 2025 MAC Championships hosted by Buffalo.

The Zips ended the night with a pair of wins in the 200 breaststroke and freestyle relay events. Bosler (2:22.09) won the 200 breast and Craig touched second (2:22.47). The team of Swabinski, Holder Reid and Nuhfer posted the final win of the evening with a 1:34.77 time in the 200 free relay.
Akron will be back in action on Feb. 26 through March 1 at the 2025 MAC Championships hosted by Buffalo.
