Zips Begin MAC Championships in First Place

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Akron swimming and diving team took control of first place after the first day of the 2025 Mid-American Conference Championships on Wednesday, February 26.
Akron finished day one in first with 74 points, Ohio finished in second with 70 points and Miami finished in third with 64 points.
The Zips took silver in the 200-Yard Medley Relay. Madelyn Gatrall (24.58), Claire Cox (27.61), Abigail Daniel (22.84) and Ada Szwabinska (22.20) finished with a time of 1:37.13.
The Blue and Gold also took gold in the 800-Yard Free Relay. Dominika Kossakowska (1:47.02), Helena Lalkovic (1:49.98), Rebecca Reid (1:47.65) and Gatrall (1:47.76) finished with the top time of 7:10.41. Akron's 800 Free Relay time bested the top time in the MAC, which was also set by the Zips, by over two seconds.
Day two of the MAC Championships begins at 10 a.m. with prelims before returning for the finals at 6 p.m.
