Del Real, Gash and Brissett Record Career-Highs in Win Over EMU

AKRON, Ohio - Vanessa Del Real, Delaney Gash and Gabby Brissett all recorded career-highs, as the Akron volleyball team defeated the Eastern Michigan Eagles 3-2 (25-21,25-21,22-25,21-25,15-6) Friday at James A Rhodes Arena.
Gash set a new career-high in kills with 28, Del Real set a personal best in digs with 37 while Brissett set a career-high in kills with 16.
The Zips were led by a double-double from Gash, who registered 28 kills and 12 digs. Brissett followed 16 kills while Lyndi Wolf added 10. On the defensive end, Del Real chipped in for with 37 digs to go along with 12 from Reilly Chausse and Gash. Wolf and Martina Villani added five blocks to lead the Zips. Villani also served up 55 assists against the Eagles.
The conference victory improved Akron's record to 13-11 overall and 6-7 in MAC play.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips took control of the set-one lead at 6-5 and never trailed to win 25-21. Akron led by five points at 15-10 before finishing off the set, collecting 16 kills in the process.
SET 2 | Akron carried momentum from a set-one win by securing a 25-21 victory in the second set. The Zips led from the first point on in the set to secure the victory. Akron opened up as much as a five point lead at 22-17 before finishing off the set, totaling 15 kills in the process. The Zips hit .333 over the course of the set. Akron's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Eastern Michigan attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Akron couldn't finish off the sweep, dropping set three to make their lead two sets to one in the match. The Zips came up short in a back-and-forth battle, losing 25-22 in a set that featured three lead changes and was tied 11 times. Neither team had a lead of more than three points along the way.
SET 4 | Akron then dropped their second straight set 25-21 to brind the match level at two sets apiece. The Zips fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set.
SET 5 | Akron needed a fifth set to seal the match win. After they jumped out to an early two sets to none lead, Eastern Michigan responded to take the third and fourth sets before the Zips finished off their victory with a 15-6 fifth-set win. The Zips led from the first point on in set five to secure the victory. Akron ended on a high note, opening its biggest lead of the stanza, nine points, to close out the set, totaling 10 kills with a .6 attack percentage while only notching one attack error in the process.
