Zips Fall to Kent State

KENT, Ohio - The Akron volleyball team fell to the Kent State Golden Flashes in four sets (20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 19-25) on the road on Saturday.
The Zips offense was paced by Delaney Gash, who finished with 16 kills on the day, and by Maureen Mathews, who had 10.Vanessa Del Real tied her career-high in aces with five. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Del Real had a season-high 21 and Reilly Chausse had 10. From the front row, Lyndi Wolf contributed a career-high seven blocks.
The loss dropped Akron's record to 8-7 overall and 1-3 in MAC play.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips fell behind early, losing the first set 25-20. Akron trailed by as many as seven points as Kent State grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was tied up just once before the Golden Flashes took control.
SET 2 | Akron lost the second set 25-21, digging a 2-0 deficit in the match. Kent State grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that was tied up six times before the Golden Flashes took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Akron got on the board after a win in the third set to make it a 2-1 match. The Zips the set the third set 25-22. Akron took the lead for good at 18-17 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Zips took over in the second half of the stanza. The Akron offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza. Akron's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Kent State attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | Akron couldn't build off the set-three victory and lost in the fourth set 25-19 to drop the match. The Zips trailed by as many as eight points as Kent State grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 and Akron wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up just once before the Golden Flashes took over.

Akron hosts Buffalo on Tuesday, October 7 before traveling to Western Michigan for a pair of games starting on October 9.
