Zips Set Two Pool Records on Second Day of MAC Championships; Stay in First Place

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Abigail Daniel set a pool record and tied the MAC Championship record in the 200-IM while the 400-Yard Medley Relay squad of Madelyn Gatrall, Claire Cox, Daniel and Ada Szwabinska set a pool record to highlight the second night of the MAC Championships.
Daniel took gold in the 200-IM with a time of 1:56.04 to set the Pool record and tie the MAC Championship record set in 2023 by Nicole Maier of Miami. It is also the 2nd fastest time in school history.
The 400-Yard Medley Relay squad set a pool record with a time of 3:31.71 to break the record set in 20202 by Akron (3:35.13).
Akron finished the second night of competition with three gold medals and one silver to maintain its first-place status.
Through two days of competition, Akron is in first with 264 points. Buffalo is in second with 228 and Ohio is in third with 215.5.
The Zips finished the prelim session by sending 14 swimmers and divers to the A and B finals.
Elle Couture led the way for Akron in the 500-Yard Free prelims with a third-place finish and a time of 4:53.63. Joining her in the A finals was Dominika Kossakowska who placed fifth with a time of 4:55.28.
Daniel finished second in the 200-Yard IM prelims with a time of 2:01.08. Rebecca Reid finished fourth with a time of 2:01.56 to advance to the A finals as well.
Making the B finals was Kendal Craig, who finished 13th with a time of 2:03.85.
The 50-Yard free saw five Zips advance to the A and B finals.
Ada Szwabinska placed fifth with an NCAA B-Cut time of 22.75 while Aislinn Holder finished sixth with a time of 22.82 to make the A Finals.
Madelyn Gatrall, Callie Parkes and Hannah Trainer all made the B Finals as well. Gatrall finished 11th with a time of 23.10 while Parkes and Trainer tied for 12th with times of 23.23.
In the 1-meter dive event, Elizabeth Noble made the A finals with a fifth-place finish and a score of 247.70.
Laurel Smith and Sophia Stamm made the B Finals with scores of 227 (15th place) and 226.50 (16th place). In the consolation finals, Smith finished third with a score of 250.95 while Stamm finished fourth with a score of 235.95.
Akron started the finals session by taking gold in the 500-Yard Free. Couture would take the top spot on the podium with a time of 4:50.44.
The 200-IM would see Daniel set a Pool Record and tie the MAC Championship record with a time of 1:56.04. Daniel also made an NCAA B-Cut time. Reid came in second with a time of 1:59.08 and also set an NCAA B-Cut time.
Holder paced the Zips in the 50-Yard Free finals with a seventh-place finish and an NCAA B-Cut time of 22.74. Szwabinska finished eighth with an NCAA B-Cut time of 22.76.
Noble finished fourth in the 1-meter dive finals with a score of 254.00.
The 400-Yard Medley Relay squad finished the night with a gold after swimming a time of 3:31.71.
