Zips Break Two Pool Records; Keep First Place Lead Through Day 3

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Akron swimming and diving team broke two pool records and took a commanding lead of first place after the third day of the Mid-American Conference Championships on Friday.
Abigail Daniel set the pool record in the 100-Yard Fly finals with a time of 51.67. The pool record was broken earlier by Felicia Klintemar who swam a time of 52.40 in the prelims.
The 200 Free Relay squad of Daniel, Ada Szwabinska, Aislinn Holder and Hannah Trainer set a new pool record with a time of 1:28.62, besting the previous time of 1:29.39 set by the Zips in 2020.
Akron stayed in first place with 504 points with Ohio in second with 424.5 points. Miami rounds out the top three with 376 points.
Akron started the prelims by breaking a pool record in the 100 Fly. Klintemar took the top time in the 100 Fly prelims with a time of 52.40 to break the previous pool record of 52.42 set by Paulina Nogaj of Akron in 2020. Klintemar also recorded the fourth fastest time in school history. Daniel finished second in the prelims with an NCAA B-Cut time of 52.65 while Aislinn Holder finished third with an NCAA B-Cut time of 53.29.
The 200 Free prelims saw a trio of Zips make the A Final. Szwabinska led the way with a fourth-place finish and a time of 1:48.79. Julia Muater finished seventh with a time of 1:50.14 while Helena Lalkovic placed eighth with a time of 1:50.29. Making the B finals was Dominika Kossakowska with a 10th place finish and a time of 1:50.60.
Two Zips made the A Finals in the 100 Breast. Claire Cox paced the Zips with a fourth-place finish and an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:01.31. Madelyn Bosler joined Cox in the A Finals with an eighth-place finish and a time of 1:02.83. Kendal Craig made the B Finals with a 12th-place finish and a time of 1:03.66.
The 100 Back featured Madelyn Gatrall finishing second with an NCAA B-Cut time of 52.98 while Rebecca Reid joined Gatrall in the A Finals with a fifth-place finish and a time of 54.04. Klintemar advanced to the B Finals with a 13th-place finish and a time of 55.22.
In the 3-meter diving event, Elizabeth Noble advanced to the A Finals with a sixth-place finish and a score of 254.35. Sophia Stamm advanced to the consolation finals with a 15th-place finish and a score of 226.10 in the prelims. Stamm scored 211.60 and finished eighth in the consolation finals.
Daniel took gold in the 100-Yard Fly A finals with an NCAA B-Cut time of 51.67 to set a pool record. Klintemar took silver with an NCAA B-Cut time of 52.30 while Holder took bronze with an NCAA B-Cut time of 52.69. Trainer finished fifth with a time of 53.84 to round out the Zips dominance in the event
Szwabinska placed fifth in the 200-Yard Free finals with a time of 1:48.78 while Lalkovic placed sixth with a time of 1:48.81. Kossakowska finished first in the B Finals with a time of 1:47.97.
Bosler took eighth place in the 100-Yard Breast A finals with a time of 1:03.13.
The 100-Yard Back A Finals featured Gatrall taking bronze with an NCAA B-Cut time of 52.48 while Reid finished fifth with an NCAA B-Cut time of 53.92.
The Zips closed out the third day of competition with a pool record in the 200-Yard Free Relay. The squad of Daniel (22.39), Szwabinska (22.03), Holder (21.98) and Trainer (22.22) finished with an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:28.62.
The Zips look for their 11th MAC title over the last 12 seasons as the MAC Championships conclude on Saturday, March 1.
