Zips Claim Fourth Straight MAC Swimming & Diving Title

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Akron swimming and diving team won the Mid-American Conference Championships for the fourth consecutive year and the 11th in the past 12 seasons.
The Zips captured the title with 726.5 points. Ohio placed second with 637.5 points while Miami placed third with 637.5 points.
Felicia Klintemar was named the MAC Freshman Swimmer of the Year while Abigail Daniel was named the MAC Most Outstanding Swimmer and Most Outstanding Senior.
Akron also set two pool records on the final day of competition. Abigail Daniel broke the pool record in the 200-Yard Fly with a first-place finish and time of 1:56.67 in the A Finals. The Zips also set a new record in the 400-Yard Free Relay as Klintemar, Hannah Trainer, Ada Szwabinska and Daniel swam the top time of 3:15.70.
Akron saw three Zips named to the All-MAC First Team and six named to the All-MAC Second Team.
Elle Couture, Abigial Daniel and Rebecca Reid were named to the All-MAC First Team while Felicia Klintemar, Ada Szwabinska, Aislinn Holder, Hannah Trainer, Dominika Kossakowska and Elizabeth Noble were named to the All-MAC Second Team.
The Zips started prelims with a sixth-place finish in the 200-Yard back by Rebecca Reid who finished with a time of 1:59.13 to advance to the A Finals. Julia Mauter made the B Finals with a 13th-place finish and a time of 2:00.50.
Felicia Klintemar took third in the 100-Yard free to advance to the A Finals with an NCAA B-Cut time of 49.46. Ada Szwabinska placed fifth with a time of 49.56 while Hannah Trainer finished eighth with a time of 49.69. Both Szwabinska and Trainer advanced to the A Finals. Making the B Finals in the 100 free were Aislinn Holder, Dominika Kossakowska and Helena Lalkovic.
Madelyn Bosler finished seventh in the 200-Yard breaststroke prelims with a time of 2:16.49. Kendall Craig and Claire Cox advanced to the B finals with 12th and 14th place finishes.
Abigail Daniel took the top time in the 200-Yard fly with a time of 2:00.5. Addy Soehnlen also made the A Finals with a fourth-place finish and a time of 2:02.40.
Akron started the finals with a third-place finish from Elle Couture in the 1650 Free. Couture swam a time of 16:49.73 to capture bronze.
Reid took sixth in the 200 Back A Finals with a time of 1:59.41 while Mauter finished first in the B Finals with a time of 1:59.32.
Klintemar took fifth in the 100 Free A Finals with a time of 49.60 while Szwabinska finished sixth with a time of 49.80.
Bosler paced the Zips in the 200 Breast A Finals with a fifth-place finish and a time of 2:16.17. Kendal Craig took second in the B Finals with a time of 2:15.20.
Daniel set a pool record in the 200 Fly A Finals with an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:56.67 while Addy Soehnlen finished fourth with a time of 2:01.20.
Elizabeth Noble took fourth in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 265.55.
The 400 Free Relay squad closed out the night with a pool record time and NCAA B-Cut time of 3:15.70.
