Zips Stay in First Place After Second Day of CSCAA National Invitational Championships

OCALA, Fla. - The Akron swimming and diving team maintained its first-place status after the second day of the CSCAA National Invitational Championships on Friday, March 14.
The Zips stayed in first with 442 points. Kentucky placed second with 435 points and Rice rounded out the top three with 208 points.
Dominka Kossakowska finished third in the 200-yard free prelims with a time of 1:47.02.
Maddy Gatrall placed second in the 100-yard back prelims with a time of 54.17 while Rebecca Reid finished in the top 10 with an eighth-place finish and a time of 54.52.
The 100-yard breast featured Claire Cox placing seventh with a time of 1:01.76 while Felecia Klintemar took second in the 100-yard fly prelims with a time of 53.34. Aislin Holder joined Klintemar in the top 10 after placing sixth with a time of 53.77.
Elizabeth Noble led the Zips in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 207.25 and a 17th-place finish in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 253.60.
The Zips took first in the 200-yard Medley Relay after Gatrall (24.88), Cox (27.30), Addy Soehnlen (24.44) and Ada Szwabinska (21.78) finished with a time of 1:38.40.
In the 100-yard fly, Akron took gold and silver after Klintemar posted the top time of 52.64 and Holder finished with a time of 52.76.
Kossakowska led the Zips in the 200-yard free finals with a fourth-place finish and a time of 1:47.60. Cox posted the fastest time for the Zips in the 100-yard breast with a fifth-place finish and a time of 1:00.89.
Gatrall took bronze in the 100-yard back finals with a time of 53.27 while Reid finished eighth with a time of 53.54.
The Zips took Gold in the 800-yard free relay as the squad of Szwabinska (1:48.36), Klintemar (1:48.65), Reid (1:48.62) and Kossakowska (1:46.54) finished with a time of 7:12.17 and set a CSCAA NIC record in the process, breaking the previous time of 7:12.57.
The third and final day of the National Invitational Championships begins on Saturday, March 15.
